It is a lamp widely used in Kerala temples. . It is used during auspicious events associated with Hindu religion. The lamp has a long handle towards the back. There is a small dip (depression) in the middle for holding oil. In front adjoining the depression is the small depression to light the lamp or diya. A small spoon bound using chain is attached to the Changalavattam. This is a heavy lamp.
